Interior design tips to give your home the Wow Factor

Mackenzie Paige • Jun 22, 2023

Give your home its own personality with a unique interior design

Your home is a canvas where you can unleash your creativity and showcase your personality. It is the perfect opportunity to design a space that reflects your individuality and makes a real statement. One of the things I love about my job is sharing tips that help to create a truly distinctive and personalised atmosphere through unique decor choices.

Embrace Statement Pieces in your Interior Design

Injecting your personality into your space starts with incorporating statement pieces that make a bold impression. These eye-catching items instantly grab attention and become the focal point of any room. Whether it's a captivating piece of artwork, an antique find, or an unconventional lighting fixture, let these pieces shine and let your personal style take the spotlight.

Mix and Match Patterns Throughout your Design

Don't be afraid to play with patterns to create an engaging and dynamic space. From geometric prints to floral designs, the key is finding a balance. I always suggest starting with a neutral base and layering patterns of different scales and textures. This creates visual depth and adds an exciting flair that reflects your unique taste.

Curate Collections Throughout

Collections are a fantastic way to showcase your passions and tell your story. Whether it's vintage cameras, antique books, or colourful pottery, displaying your cherished items adds a personal touch to your home. I always advise my clients to curate and arrange their collections thoughtfully, whether on shelves, mantels, or dedicated display areas. This can creates a captivating focal point that truly reflects your personality.

Be aware though if you have too much stuff, you risk cluttering the space and detracting from the impression you want to give.

Play with Colours Throughout Your Design

Colour is a powerful tool for self-expression in your space. Depending on your style and taste, you may want to be adventurous and experiment with vibrant hues or you may want to opt for a more sophisticated and subdued palette.

Depending on the client I typically  recommend incorporating splashes of colour through accessories like cushions, rugs, or artwork. Mixing and matching shades creates an inviting and personalised atmosphere that speaks to your individuality.

Customise with Personal Touches

Add a personal touch to your space by incorporating sentimental items that hold special meaning. Display family photographs, showcase artwork created by loved ones, or integrate cherished heirlooms. These personal items infuse warmth, nostalgia, and authenticity into your home. It is my opinion that a home should tell your story, so don't hesitate to customise your space with meaningful objects that reflect your journey.

Consider Unique Textures

Texture adds a tactile experience and visual interest to your interiors. Experiment with unique textures like reclaimed wood, luxurious fabrics, or woven rattan to create a sensory delight. Again, it depends on the individual client but I usually suggest incorporating textured elements through furniture, soft furnishings, and decor accessories to create a space that is truly one-of-a-kind.

Conclusion

Unleash your creativity and transform your space into a personalised sanctuary that radiates your unique personality. With Mackenzie Page Interiors' expert guidance, you can infuse your home with personality through statement pieces, mixed patterns, curated collections, vibrant colours, personal touches, and unique textures. Let your home reflect who you are and become a haven that is authentically yours.

Client Background: Location: Odiham Room Design: Home Office Client’s Objective : Creating a sophisticated home office space with careful consideration for the useability and practicality of the design too. The Interior Design Challenge: The main challenge with this space was planning all the storage requirements whilst also fitting in three desk areas. As a busy home office space for a local company who specialise in loft conversions, it was important this space was aesthetically pleasing, practical but also representative of their brand. My Interior Design Approach: When adding carpentry to a space, it is important to really consider how it will be used and the specific measurements too. I initially worked to create ergonomic desks stations, and them moved on to the design finishes.
